Hotham Achieves

Milestone in FFMHS Sports History

First Lady Tiger to achieve 1,000 Career Points

Fort Fairfield’s Amanda Hotham became the first girl in school history to surpass the coveted 1000-point career mark in a game that was played Monday night, January 24th in Easton. She scored going to her left with a left-handed lay-up, just minutes into the game. Everyone in the gym knew how many points Hotham needed for her 1000th and the moment it happened the packed house stood as one to give her a much deserved standing ovation for her accomplishment. At that point the game was stopped as Easton School Athletic Administrator Steve Shaw along with principal Georgette Ireland presented Amanda, along with her parents, Nathan and Beth and sister Melissa, with the game ball and praised her for her achievement.

What is even more amazing is the fact the Hotham is only a junior! Most players who reach that 1000-point plateau are seniors so when a player does it her junior year you know that it is something even more special.

Hotham wanted to thank all of her teammates, past and present, for their unselfish play and said that they were all instrumental in helping her reach this milestone. She says that she and her team need to focus all their energy on this season’s goal which is to “Defend Our Title!”

Scoring rules only allow players to count their scores in regular season games and post-season tournament games. No scrimmages, preseason games, exhibition games, or any other games stats are used. Amanda had scored 327 points her freshman season, 423 her sophomore year and then topped the 1000 point mark at Easton. No other girl in school history has ever done that. Dani Searles, who graduated in 2004, held the previous record of 960 points. Only two boys to date have eclipsed that same 1000-point mark. Shawn Manter, who ironically played for coach Larry Gardner as well, reached his 1000-point mark in 1989 while Jon Nichols accomplished the feat in 1996.

Congratulations Amanda on this milestone!
