Local Team Raises $3,000 for Annual Suicide Prevention Walk

By: David Deschesne

Fort Fairfield Journal, October 31, 2012

The annual Suicide Prevention walk was held in Fort Kent on October 13. Once again Lisa Sirois and her team participated in the fundraising and awareness event. “We changed our team name this year to 'A Season for Healing; A Reason for Hope', said Sirois. “Once again I led the team in raising over $3,000. I had the help of three women, Teri Krause, Cathy Edmunds and Natalie Sherman, who gathered together a small team of their own. Together we had 21 walkers make the trip to Fort Kent to help raise awareness and prevent further loss.”

The Fort Fairfield Knights of Columbus agreed to help again this year and graciously conducted a fundraising luncheon for the effort. “They were our single greatest donation.”

The walk was around the mill in Fort Kent, approximately 3 miles, and ended in writing the names of the souls that have been lost on a balloon and releasing them. The Fort Kent site met their goal of $5,000.
