Fort Woman Arrested in Stabbing Incident

Fort Fairfield Journal, January 22, 2014

On January 21, 2014, around 4:15 PM, the Fort Fairfield Police Department responded to 11 Borderview, Apartment #20 for a report of an adult male who had been stabbed during a domestic disturbance in Fort Fairfield.

Officers arrived to find Kary Carney, age 45, from Mapleton, had suffered multiple stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.  Carney alleged that his girlfriend, April McCausland, age 42, from Fort Fairfield, had inflicted the wounds during a fight.  Carney was transported to The Aroostook Medical Center by Crown Ambulance where he was treated for his injuries and remained overnight.  Carney, was listed in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

McCausland, who had fled her residence with her two-year-old son, was located at a nearby residence and arrested without incident.  McCausland was charged with aggravated assault, a class B felony.  Bail was set at $5000 cash, which she was unable to post.  She was transported to Caribou Police Department's jail where she awaits arraignment before a judge.  McCausland's son was placed with a family member.

Sgt. Shawn Newell is the lead investigator and was assisted by Chief William Campbell and Maine State Police Criminal Investigation Division.
