Trade Fair Cancelled

Fort Fairfield Journal

March 14, 2018

Due to a combination of factors, the Fort Fairfield Quality of Place Council has made the decision to cancel the 38th annual Northern Maine Agri-Business Trade Fair scheduled to be held March 24th and 25th at the Forum in Presque Isle.  All businesses that have paid for booth space in advance will be given full refunds.

“This was a very difficult decision to make,” stated Tim Goff, the Event Director for the Fort Fairfield Quality of Place Council.  “Having planned the previous three Trade Fairs for the Fort Fairfield Chamber of Commerce, I knew the challenges and opportunities faced by taking this project on again.  I believed that by building upon the success of last year's event, we would once again have a quality showcase of local businesses and the County's unique flavor, but as the calendar quickly approached March, it became increasingly evident that we would struggle to execute a top quality event.  I discussed this situation with the Board President, and we concluded that as difficult as it is to pull the plug, it was in the best interest of everyone involved to make notifications now and call off the event.”

“I cannot express how truly sorry I am to let our business partners and local non-profits down,” stated Goff.  “We feel it is better to make this call now, nearly a month in advance, so folks can make other plans.  While we could have possibly limped through this year, I believe it is better not to tarnish the legacy of this event or to disappoint the many loyal vendors and attendees that have made the Trade Fair a rite of Spring in Aroostook County for nearly four decades.”

The Fort Fairfield Quality of Place Council is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to enhancing and enriching the lives of residents and visitors of Fort Fairfield.  The organization will continue to seek out ways to make positive contributions to its community and has some ambitious projects planned for the future.
