Mandeville Seeks Empty Perham Selectman Seat
By: David Deschesne Fort Fairfield Journal PERHAM, Maine—Duane Mandeville is campaigning for the Perham selectman seat vacated by the resignation of Leslie Taylor last month. Born in Limestone, Duane now lives with his family on the old Akerson Homestead on Tupper Road. He served in the U.S. Navy, on submarines, and currently works for Lane Construction with over 24 years of experience as a welder, diesel/hydraulic mechanic and has a good working knowledge of road construction and projects. “In this time of fiscal uncertainty, when most American families are tightening their belts, I take the operation of this town to be a very serious matter,” said Mandeville. “a matter that calls for formalized planning that makes the best use of our monies in all departments.” He believes his experience in road projects would be beneficial to the town as Perham struggles to maintain and upgrade its severely deteriorated road system. “I am in a position to evaluate and assess what repairs are needed on equipment and I am willing to help on repairs when needed.” Mandeville says he understands budgets and looks forward to working toward a budget that is reflective of Perham’s needs while being fiscally responsible. “I believe with research and planning we can make our dollars go further. I have a commitment to this town and keeping our taxes to a reasonable level through accountability and transparency.” Mandeville has served as a volunteer firefighter where he learned much about working together for the good of the people in a community. “I saw how firefighters functioned with one another, to keep things running smoothly, which enabled all members to be ready and at their best in order to serve those same people who placed their trust in us. I feel I can bring that attitude of pulling together for the greater good to the office of selectmen.” Duane’s home phone number is 492-0677 and he encourages folks in Perham to feel free to contact him with their concerns. The special election for selectman will be on August 25 at the Perham town office.
