Feds Back Down After Hundreds of Militia

Show Support for Nevada Rancher

Fort Fairfield Journal, April 16, 2014

A day after www.infowars.com blew the lid off Sen. Harry Reid’s link to the BLM’s land grab of the Bundy Ranch, the Sheriff of Clark County, Nevada, Douglas Gillespie, announced to tremendous applause that the Bureau of Land Management would cease their efforts targeting cattle rancher Cliven Bundy.

Last week, the BLM, with the aid of helicopters, low-flying aircraft and hired cowboys, began rounding up Bundy’s cattle, and forbade him from interfering with the operation, as Bundy announced he was prepared to weather a full-on assault.

Bundy's family had been ranching cattle on the land for over 100 years and is now the last family left after all the others had been forced off by coercive federal regulations. “Cliven Bundy, the last rancher in Clark County, Nev., has been fighting a ‘one-man range war’ since 1993, when he decided to take a stand against the agency, refusing to pay fees for the right to graze on a ranch run by his family for centuries,” wrote Elizabeth Harrington for the Washington Free Beacon. “After years of court battles, the BLM secured a federal court order to have Bundy’s ‘trespass cattle’ forcibly removed with heavy artillery, the family said.”

The cattle were purportedly being removed to protect some desert tortoise, which has coexisted with the cattle for hundreds of years. In the early 1990's, the BLM forced most ranchers to sign away their rights to graze up to 90% of their cattle on the federal land in order to be allowed to graze the remaining 10% and pay the BLM's Animal Units Per Month (AUM) fee.

While Bundy had been paying for grazing rights up to that point, he refused then to sign on to that agreement that would have decimated his herd.

“Keep in mind that Mr. Bundy was required to sign this contract before he was allowed to pay. Had Clive signed on the dotted line, he would have, in essence, signed his very livelihood away. And so Mr. Bundy took a stand, not only for himself, but for all of us,” said one rancher familiar with the situation. “He refused to be destroyed by a tyrannical federal entity and to have his American liberties and freedoms taken away.”

However, like all things in politics things aren't always as simple as federal bureaucrats make them appear. Rather than an effort to save the desert tortoise, or to confiscate the cattle due to lack of payment on grazing fees, it seems the real motive for the forced removal of Bundy and his cattle was a solar energy development deal between Senator, Harry Reid (D-Nevada) and the communist Chinese.

According to a report on Infowars.com, a BLM report entitled “Regional Mitigation Strategy for the Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone” (BLM Technical Note 444) reveals that Bundy’s land in question is within the “Dry Lake Solar Energy Zone and surrounding area” which is part of a broad U.S. Department of Energy program for “Solar Energy Development in Six Southwestern States” on land “managed” by BLM.

Back in 2012, the New American reported that Harry Reid’s son, Rory Reid, was the chief representative for a Chinese energy firm planning to build a $5-billion solar plant on public land in Laughlin, Nevada.

The Infowars.com report also reveals

journalist Marcus Stern with Reuters also reported that Sen. Reid was heavily involved in the deal as well. “[Reid] and his oldest son, Rory, are both involved in an effort by a Chinese energy giant, ENN Energy Group, to build a $5 billion solar farm and panel manufacturing plant in the southern Nevada desert,” he wrote. “Reid has been one of the project’s most prominent advocates, helping recruit the company during a 2011 trip to China and applying his political muscle on behalf of the project in Nevada.”

After this report was released, implicating Senator Reid and the communist Chinese in the land grab, the Feds unceremoniously backed off, but some believe they have not given up the fight.

A recent announcement indicates the FAA has closed the Mesquite Airspace adjacent to and including Bunkerville, Nevada at the request of the BLM. This is a new development and indicates the BLM may not be backing off after all.

“I was contacted by my source within the Department of Homeland Security regarding the current situation at the Bundy Ranch,” writes Doug Hagmann, founder and director of Northeast Intelligence Network, in a post on www.stevequayle.com. “To put it bluntly, the people are being hoodwinked into believing that the situation is being resolved. It is not. It is a strategic de-escalation to fool the public.”

“This source stated that a response by the patriot movement was anticipated, although exceeded their expectations. Although this was a real operation, they also ran this as a test case for future government operations once they saw the response. They were also actively managing the media, in some cases threatening to cut off White House access to anyone covering the event. Despite this, the coverage by the alternative media began to create a public relations problem that was not easily managed.”

Hundreds of volunteer militia and several state legislators organized outside the ranch in support of the Bundy family. The Arizona legislature passed a resolution censuring the BLM for their actions in Nevada. A few skirmishes resulted in the freeing of some of Bundy’s cattle which had been rounded up by private contractors for the feds. Reports of up to 5,000 armed militia were en route to the Bundy ranch from Texas, Oregon, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire but the situation was defused before they could all arrive.

While no shots were fired at what was being called the “next Battle of Bunker Hill,” the U.S. government has learned that Americans are becoming increasingly weary of their coercive, heavy handed, totalitarian tactics to oppress the freedoms of otherwise peaceful people and are now standing ready to fight to protect the freedoms that our forefathers, too, fought a war to preserve.
