EUGENE R. BUTLER

Fort Fairfield – Eugene R. Butler, 86, husband of the late Alda L. (Estey) Butler, passed away Monday morning October 29, 2018 at a Presque Isle nursing facility, following an extended illness. He was born October 29, 1932 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Donald S. and Kathleen (Myshrall) Butler. He attended local schools and was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War. He had been employed in various capacities over the years, including Arnold Roach’s Sunoco Station, a part time police officer for the Town of Fort Fairfield, where he also served as animal control officer, a volunteer fire fighter with the Town of Fort Fairfield, and was a bus driver at the Limestone School Department for many years. He was a past member of the American Legion, Henry R. Pratt Post Number 15, Caribou, and a 3rd degree member of the Fort Fairfield Knights of Columbus Council Number 1753. Gene was married to Alda L. Estey on April 28, 1961 with whom he enjoyed nearly 36 years marriage until her death on January 17, 1997. In addition to his parents and his wife Alda, Gene was predeceased by two brothers, Bernard J. and Laverne R. Butler; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Rick E. (Connie) Butler, Mrs. Wayne (Eunice) Estey; one son-in-law, Glen Barnett. He is survived by one son, Rick E. Butler of Colebrook, NH; one daughter, Jean-Ann Chaney and her husband Dennis of Roanoke, VA; three step-sons, Wayne Estey and his wife Judy of Oxbow, Lee Bennett of Pensacola, FL, Peter Bennett and his wife Donna of Caribou; three step-daughters, Mary Barnett of Tocoma, WA, Joyce Bennett of Lakewood, CO, Twila Farr of Presque Isle; three sisters, Kathy Holton of Fort Fairfield, Sandra Rae Andrecola and her husband John of Shamong, NJ, Dolly Aiello of North Hampton, MA; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends called Sunday November 4, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday November 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Interment with military honors followed at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held after the interment at the Knights of Columbus Hall Council Number 1753, 260 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
