GERALD JAMES CASSIDY
Fort Fairfield - Gerald James Cassidy, 86, of Fort Fairfield, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family, following an extended illness. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Born in Bairdsville, New Brunswick on May 28, 1929, he was the son of Wilfred and Loretta Allison Cassidy. He was a 1947 graduate of Fort Fairfield High School and attended Ricker College. Jim proudly served our country as an Airman 1st Class in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was a farmer for many years, growing potatoes, peas and oats on his family farm in Fort Fairfield. Jim was a communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, and was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus #1753 and the Lions Club, all of Fort Fairfield. He served on the Fort Fairfield Town Council for many years including a term as Council Chairman. On June 30, 1956 in Johnville, New Brunswick, Jim married Marion T. Mahoney. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Gerald and Mary Cassidy of El Dorado Hills, CA, Michael and Linda Cassidy of Ocala, FL, Col. Wilfred (USAF, Ret.) and Lisa Cassidy of Kalua, HI, Paul and Jere Cassidy of El Dorado Hills, CA, Mark and Barbara Cassidy of Saco, ME, Peter and Lori Cassidy of Hopewell Junction, NY, Anne and Jason McAmbley of Bangor, ME; his sisters, Marion Fritz of Tampa, FL, Georgine Richards of Caribou, ME, Ellen (Greg) Corrow of Caribou, ME, and Carolyn (Dennis) Daigle of Littleton, NH; his brother, Eugene (Linda) Cassidy of Sinclair, ME; his 12 grandchildren, Landon, Ben, Mickenzie, Loretta , Carolyn, Juliane, Riley, Allison, Bevyn, Clara, Joseph and Jenn; 6 great-grandchildren, Caroline, Clayton, Callie Rae, Joshua, Caleb and Aubrey Rae; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Dr. Donald W. Cassidy, Sr. Calling hours will be held on Friday July 24, 2015 from 7-9pm at the Giberson Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, ME. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday July 25, 2015 at 11am at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with the Fr. Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant, followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery with military honors. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 260 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the interment service.
