LETHA SPENCER CURRIE
FORT FAIRFIELD - Letha Spencer Currie, wife of Freeman P. Currie passed peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday morning November 5th. She was born April 15, 1922 in Four Falls New Brunswick, Canada to Frederick H. and Agnes (Bourgoine) Spencer the 4th of 8 children. Letha started her faithful relationship with God as a baptized member of St Paul’s Episcopal Church and later a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church in Fort Fairfield. She was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School class of 1939 and soon joined the business world as Assistant Manager of the local J.J. Newberry store, then moving on to Peterson’s Motor Mart and eventually owner/operator of two well know store fronts on Main Street Fort Fairfield…The Moderne Shoppe & Achorn’s Family Shoe Store. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Freeman April 4th 1991, brothers – Earlon, Gilbert, Bernard, Frederick Jr. and Vaughn Spencer. A sister Ada Crandall, a very special sister-in-law Arlene (Dolly) Cyr and nieces Ethyl Cyr Athmer and Sue Ann Bsullak. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law: Donna L. Currie (Fort Fairfield) and Gloria & Stephen Towle (Easton), her sister Verna Sirois (West Suffield Ct.) and sister-in-law Dorothy Spencer (Coventry, Ct.). Letha has many nieces and nephews and was especially close to the Norman and Carolyn Watson family: Michael, Nancy, Wendy and Dolly. Richard & Louise Cyr, Sylvia Winslow, Robert & Barbara Cyr, Carl & Bonnie Athmer, David Winslow, Peggy & Bill Pastyrnak, Linda Spencer and longtime family friend Alice Durost. Letha was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend as demonstrated by her unending willingness to quietly help others through gifts of time, home baked goods for shut-ins, church missions, caregiver and friend to all who knew her. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Shirley, Rena, Lynn & Duska who helped make it possible for us to keep Mom at home. We would also like to thank Dr. Fowler and Staff at the FF Health Center as well as the caring nurses and doctors at TAMC. Friends may call Tuesday, November 8th, 12:00 to 1:00 pm at St Paul’s Episcopal Church, 170 Main St. Fort Fairfield where funeral services will be held at 1:00.
