Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Dyer

 

Elizabeth Ann Dyer of South Portland died Monday, December 8, 2014 at Maine Medical Center following a long battle with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Myeloma Cancer.  She was 57.

Elizabeth was born May 16, 1957 in Fort Fairfield, Maine, the daughter of Freeman E. Dyer and Norma P. Murphy.  She graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1976 and attended Beal Business College in Bangor.

Known as Betty, Betsy or Liz to her friends and loved ones, she moved to the Greater Portland Area nearly 30 years ago where she lived and worked in various capacities including both the private and business sectors.  She also lived in Long Key, FL for a period of time.  She loved her work as it brought her in contact with people from all walks of life. She had a fondness for children, animals, the sea and laughter.  She was generous with her time and resources.

Elizabeth was pre-deceased by her parents and an older brother, Freeman S. Dyer.  She is survived by a sister Susan M. Dyer Taylor of Scarborough, a brother John W. Dyer and his wife Lisa Gallant of Eliot, a half-sister Karen L. Sprague Everett and husband Jim of Fort Fairfield, a half-brother Robert G. Dyer and wife Shirley of Young’s Cove, NB, a sister-in-law Brenda Dyer and a maternal aunt, Jeanette M. (Murphy) Lagasse both of Fort Fairfield.  She was blessed with many nieces and nephews: Troy Everett, Kelly Pearce and husband Scott, Kerrie Everett Alley and husband Todd, and Stephen Drew Dyer all of Fort Fairfield, Jodie Everett Pettegrow and husband Darren of Corinth, Joshua R.W. Taylor of South Portland, Jordan E. Dyer of Rollinsford, NH and Chad G. Dyer of Eliot.  She was also blessed with many cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.  Elizabeth was the God-Mother of two; Kayla Miller Candelmo and Joshua R.W. Taylor both of South Portland.  Her beloved friends whom she considered her extended family include Marshall and Janice Santos and Carol, Mark and Beth Raymond all of Portland, Bob and Betsy Miller, Sondra (Miller) Bellois, Kayla (Miller) Candelmo and Margaret (Miller) Riggin all of South Portland, and Lisa Gadoury and husband P.J. of Hampden.

Elizabeth made an anatomical gift of herself to the New England School of Medicine to further doctor education and medical science. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be in Elizabeth’s name to the Maine Medical Cancer Center, 100 Campus Drive, Scarborough, ME 04074.
