EVELYN FORTIER

POUGHKEEPSIE - Evelyn Higgins Fortier, 85, an area resident for 5 years, died on December 27, 2016 at home. She had also lived in Brooksville, FL.Born and raised in Fort Fairfield, ME on February 6, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Eva (Roy) Higgins. She had been employed as a bookkeeper for Dutchess Overhead Doors until her retirement. Evelyn enjoyed gardening and bird watching, and loved spending time with her family. She liked being part of the retirement community of Brooksville, FL. On November 2, 1952 at St. Denis Church in Fort Fairfield, ME, Evelyn married Charles Edward Fortier who predeceased her on May 20, 1973. She was a devoted mother to Sandra Madsen of Rhinebeck, Linda Franchina of Johnson City, Paul Fortier of Pleasant Valley, and Carol Fortier of LaGrangeville; a proud grandmother to Kelly Dalia, Elizabeth and Daniel Madsen, Thomas, Stacy, and Andrew Franchina, Natalia Glorioso, and Alexander Rodriguez; a loving great-grandmother to Evan, Colin, Nora, and Leo; a sister to Rita Sears of Spring Hill, FL and Donna Nath of Solon, IA; and an aunt to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Roy Higgins. Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 9 - 10:30 am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am on Saturday at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, LaGrangeville followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
