HAZEL M. GIBERSON
Summerfield, FL & Fort Fairfield – Hazel M. Giberson, 80, wife of the late D. Albert Giberson, passed away unexpectedly Sunday afternoon, September 30, 2018 in Ocala, FL. She was born December 31, 1937 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Francis Harold and Velma (Hitchcock) Wakeling. She spent her childhood years on Long Island Sound, Woodmont, CT and returned to Fort Fairfield with her family as a young teenager where she attended the Blaisdell Country School and the Fort Fairfield High School. She was married to D. Albert Giberson on October 16, 1953 and worked as a nurse at the Fort Fairfield Community General Hospital for several years. Hazel furthered her education at N.M.V.T.I. where she earned her Registered Nursing degree and worked for Visiting Nurses of Aroostook until her retirement in the mid 1990’s. She was a lifelong member of the United Parish Church, Fort Fairfield where she sang in the choir for many years, as music was an important part of her life. Hazel traveled with various choral groups over the years all across the United States, as well as traveling with friends in the U.S. and visiting her cousins in Wales. Hazel was a smiling face and co-innkeeper at the Weskeag Inn, South Thomaston for several years where she made many lasting friendships, most especially Nelson and Annie Smith who Hazel loved as her own. She became a permanent resident of Summerfield, Florida in January of 2013 where she enjoyed traveling, and the companionship of many friends. In addition to her parents, Hazel was predeceased by her husband, D. Albert Giberson on November 1, 2001; one daughter, Diana Giberson Kleefeld on December 2, 2011; two brothers, Frederick and Ralph “Jimmy” Wakeling; two sisters, Gloria Wakeling and Joyce Wakeling Landry. She is survived by one son, Aaron M. Giberson and his wife Stacy of Fort Fairfield; two daughters, Lisa Nichols and her husband David of Hudson, Cathy Cowette of Fort Fairfield; a son-in-law, Robert Kleefeld of Wallingford, CT; one brother, Harold “Sonny” Wakeling of Limestone. She also leaves behind her companion, Thomas Fish of Summerfield, FL; six grandchildren, Kerri Knox and her fiancé, Scott McKinley of Lisbon, NH, Justin Barnes of Hoover, AL, Matt Thompson and his wife Nadia of Winthrop, Dan Thompson and his companion Jessica of Limestone, Sophie and Liam Giberson, both of Fort Fairfield; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including as special niece, Sharmon Klemenski of Summerfield, FL. Friends called Monday October 8, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. The funeral service was conducted Tuesday October 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Parish Church, 4 Church Street, Fort Fairfield with Rev. Meg Hegemann officiating. Interment will follow at the Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
