MARY WINIFRED “WINNIE” GORMAN
Fort Fairfield & Salem, NH – Mary Winifred “Winnie” Gorman, 90, wife of the late John J. Gorman, passed away peacefully following a period of declining health on September 9, 2017 at Greystone Farm, an assisted living community, in Salem, New Hampshire, where she had recently moved to be closer to her children. She was born on November 30, 1926 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of William and Angeline Hope (Poitras) Pelletier. She was united in marriage to John Joseph Gorman on June 7, 1948, in Fort Fairfield, where the couple settled, built a home, raised a large and loving family of seven children, and enjoyed 64 beautiful years together before John’s death in 2012. Winnie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. Winnie was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. Her first and deepest love was her family, and she showed that love in all she did for them each day. Second to her family, Winnie’s greatest passion was golf. Although she took up the sport later in life, Winnie excelled at it, achieving four holes in one at different courses! Additionally, Winnie was an accomplished gardener, and she shared the floral beauty she created with neighbors and friends. Nearly as important as her gardening was Winnie’s love for birds. Her many feeders filled her yard with birdsong, and her knowledge of her feathered friends was extensive. In her final years, Winnie’s children affectionately called her their ”little chickadee”. Her song will be forever in their hearts. In addition to her parents, Winnie was predeceased by her husband John and is survived by her children and their families; Marilyn Gorman of Phoenix, AZ, James and wife Jeanie (Putnum) of Moneta, VA, Peter and wife Susan (Howard) of Carrabassett Valley, Roberta Gorman Fair and husband Greg of Camden, DE, Debra Gorman Fouts and husband Mark of Eau Claire, WI, Rochelle Gorman Walzak and husband Robert of Londonderry, NH, Patricia Gorman Anderson and husband Dano of Hampstead, NH; fifteen loving grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a brother, Richard Pelletier and wife Andrea of Fort Fairfield; and two sisters, Sister Theresa Pelletier, OSU, of Waterville, Edwidge “Didge” Pelletier O’Donnell and husband John of McLean, VA. The family would like to thank all of Winnie’s caregivers during her final years, including the staff at Leisure Village in Presque Isle, the staff of Greystone Farm in Salem, NH, and the Hospice staff who provided comfort to Winnie. Their care and concern for Winnie’s health was a blessing to her family.
