MARJORIE A. “MARNIE” HAINES
Fort Fairfield – Marjorie A. “Marnie” Haines, 94, passed away Sunday evening, March 25, 2018 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility. She was born November 29, 1923 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Leigh C. and Leversa (Hopkinson) Haines. She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1941 and the Cambridge School of Business, Boston in 1953. She was employed as a secretary at the University of Maine, Presque Isle, the Town of Fort Fairfield, the Fort Fairfield and Easton School Systems. Marnie had been a member of the Fort Fairfield United Parish Church since 1951, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, and a past secretary and past chairperson of the church board, a member of the Fort Fairfield Democratic Committee, the Aroostook County Democratic Committee, was elected to the Maine State Democratic Committee in 1980 and served as Official Delegate to the Maine State Democratic Conventions. Marnie was also affiliated with the Maine Teachers Association, and the National Teachers Association. Following retirement, Marnie served on the Board of Commissions for the Fort Fairfield Housing Authority, and volunteered her time and knowledge at the Fort Fairfield Elementary School. Marnie also enjoyed skiing, swimming, bowling, music and gourmet health cooking. In addition to her parents, Marnie was predeceased by two brothers, Philip L. and Donald R. Haines Sr.; one sister, Shirley E. Hedin; one nephew, Peter L. Haines; one great nephew, Daniel Haines. She was “Auntie” to nine nieces and nephews, John H. Haines of Birdsboro, PA, Donald R. Haines Jr. of Fort Fairfield, Susan Johnston and her husband Bruce of Mansfield, CT, Joan Chesky and her husband Jim of Selkirk, NY, Barbara Monti of Sabattus, Bonnie Haines of Granite Bay, CA, Phyllis MacDonald and her husband Donnie of Citrus Heights, CA, David Hedin and his wife Thera of Davis, CA, Nancy Miller and her husband Evan of Washington, D.C.; great nieces and great nephews, Elaine and Michelle Haines, Molly Martin, Michael Sullivan, Robert, Kevin and Stephanie Johnston, Fiona MacDonald, Kristel Van Horne, Kally Monti, Allison and Connor Hedin, Leif and Hayley Miller. She also leaves behind special relatives and friends, Mel and Carol Fitzherbert, Martha and Gary Bell, Sharon Roix and Susie Gagnon. Graveside services will be conducted at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield at later date and time to be announced by the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield.
