MARGARET A. HOLMES

Fort Fairfield – Margaret A. Holmes, 99, wife of the late Lawrence Holmes, passed away Tuesday evening August 14, 2018 at a Mars Hill nursing facility following a brief illness. She was born February 19, 1919 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Allen W. and Estella M. (McDougal) Day. She attended local schools and had been employed in the laboratory at the A & P Processing Plant, later Interstate Foods, Fort Fairfield for many years. Margaret was a long time member of the Fort Fairfield Community Wesleyan Church and also attended the Easton Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed knitting, shopping and staying active. She loved to play cards, especially “Forty-Five.” In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence; one son, Ronald Holmes; one daughter, Shirley Graves; one brother, William Day; two sisters, Marcia Ward and Ellen Morrow; one grandson, Rex Holmes; one great grandson, Jason Holmes; two grandsons-in-law, Timothy Desjardins and David Tuck. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Robin Reed and her husband Jonathan of Saco, Ray Holmes and his wife Rose of Alfred, Greg Graves and his wife Dorothy of Old Town, Peter Graves and his companion Georgette Gordon of North Anson, Stephen Graves and his companion Joyce Thibeault of Caribou; Lori Tuck of Fort Fairfield, Diana McLaughlin and her husband Steve of Carlingford, New Brunswick. She also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ronald (Delores) Holmes of Portland; and a granddaughter-in-law, Mrs. Rex (Chic) Holmes of Haines City, Florida; as well as numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends called Friday August 17, 2018 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service was conducted at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Bernard Brown officiating. Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Holmes to the charity or organization of their choice.
