Fort Fairfield – Philip A. Libby Sr., 86, husband of Marilou H. (Burtchell) Libby passed away Sunday evening, April 26, 2015 surrounded by his loving family, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, following a brief illness. He was born June 18, 1928 in Mars Hill, the son of Eldon G. and Vera E. (Merrithew) Libby. He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1946, attended Ricker College, Caribou and served his country with the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. He started his working career at the Ralph Everett Farm, Fort Fairfield, and had also been employed as a gas truck driver for Peterson’s Motor Mart, Fort Fairfield for over 20 years. He later worked as a fuel delivery truck driver for the Maine Potato Growers Co., until his retirement in 1990. Following his retirement, Phil still enjoyed working for Barry and Keith Thibeau seasonally on the potato farm. Phil loved golf and had been a member of the Aroostook Valley Country Club for many years where he held the distinction of getting two holes in one, both on hole 4. He was also an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, enjoying hunting and fishing; however his greatest passion was his family, especially his grandchildren. Phil was instantly loved by both the staff and residents of the Presque Isle Nursing Home and Rehab during his recent stay. In addition to his parents, Mr. Libby was predeceased by two brothers, Ervine Eugene Libby and Wendell Guy Libby; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Donald (Bernadette) Libby and Mrs. Linwood (Patricia) Libby. He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years, Marilou H. Libby of Fort Fairfield; two sons, Philip A. Libby Jr. and his wife Sean of Casco, Richard A. Libby and his companion Sue Cleaves of Scarborough; three daughters, Philana Joy Libby of Wells, Elmira “Sis” Allain and her companion Douglas Meyer of Miami, FL, Cindy Lou Libby Thibeau and her companion Gary Brewer of Mapleton; three brothers, Donald M. Libby Sr. of Fort Fairfield, Linwood Libby of Saco, Beverly Libby and his wife Bertha of Caribou; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Wendell (Louise) Libby of Presque Isle; four grandchildren, Hope Elizabeth Allain of Skowhegan; Ashley Lynn Allain of Miami, FL; Keith E. Thibeau and Connor Philip Thibeau, both of Fort Fairfield; numerous nieces and nephews, who loved him dearly. Friends may call Wednesday April 29, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gail Bellamy officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will follow at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, at a later date.
