BERKLEY A. THOMPSON

Fort Fairfield – Berkley A. Thompson, 79, husband of Rita Jean (Murphy) Thompson, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday evening December 26, 2018 at a Bangor healthcare facility, following a brief illness. He was born March 16, 1939 in Limestone, the son of Warren C. and Elaine V. (Drake) Thompson. He was a graduate of the Limestone High School, Class of 1958 and went on to serve his country with the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1960. He was married to Rita Jean Murphy on August 16, 1963 and had been employed by S.A.D. # 20 Fort Fairfield School Department as a custodian for forty-six years until his retirement on July 7, 2007. Berkley attended the Amazing Grace Church, Limestone Siding, New Brunswick and enjoyed gardening, fishing, sports and animals, however his greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Berkley was predeceased by one daughter, Katrina “Katie” Williams on November 3, 2018; one brother, Marvin Thompson. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Rita Jean Thompson of Fort Fairfield; one daughter, Elaine Thompson of Limestone; one brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Susan Thompson of Connor; one sister and brother-in-law, Doreah and Albert Yoder of Conover, NC; four grandchildren and spouses, Amanda and Rev. Roy Dee of Limestone Siding, New Brunswick, Amy and Calvin McDougall of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick, Nathan and Karen Searles, Jason Searles, all of Bangor; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends called Sunday December 30, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. The funeral service was conducted Monday December 31, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Roy Dee officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held after the service at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. Spring interment will take place at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou.
