JEAN M. THOMPSON
Fort Fairfield – Jean M. Thompson, 72, wife of Martin W. “Mark” Thompson Sr., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, January 17, 2018 at her Fort Fairfield home. She was born October 4, 1945 in Presque Isle, the daughter of Darrell G. and Jacqueline (Thomas) Martin. She attended Presque Isle schools and was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1963. Jean was married to Martin W. “Mark” Thompson Sr. on July 1, 1965 and had been employed by Farmers Exchange in Presque Isle, Woolworth in Fort Fairfield, was a rural route mail carrier for the Fort Fairfield Post Office and also assisted several area farmers during potato harvest. Jean was an avid dog lover and a dedicated member of the Fort Fairfield Bethel Baptist Church where she served as pianist for over twenty-five years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Warner. She is survived by her husband of fifty-two years, Mark of Fort Fairfield; two sons and daughters-in-law, Martin W. Jr. “Marty” and Annette Thompson of Fort Fairfield, Michael S. and Kelly Thompson of North Smithfield, RI; seven grandchildren, Ashley Andrews, Megan Thompson, Erica Thompson, all of Fort Fairfield, Philip Thompson of Illinois, Mark Thompson of Homerville, GA, Jacob and Joab Thompson of North Smithfield, RI; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends called Monday, January 22, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Services were conducted Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Jean’s son Marty Thompson officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held after the service at the Fort Fairfield Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will take place at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Caribou.
