VESTA ANN (COGSWELL) THOMPSON

Fort Fairfield – Vesta Ann (Cogswell) Thompson, 81, wife of the late Dr. William (Bill) A. Thompson Sr., passed away peacefully Thursday morning, September 14, 2017 at a Presque Isle healthcare facility, due to heart complications. She was born July 27, 1936 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Elwood H. and Hazel (Andrews) Cogswell. Vesta graduated from the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1954, received her Bachelors Degree in education from Aroostook State Teachers College in 1959, and her Masters Degree from the University of Maine at Orono in 1969. She was a lifelong Friendly Fort Fairfield resident who loved and enjoyed teaching for S.A.D. # 20 for 33 years. She also enjoyed fellowshipping in her faith at the Community Wesleyan Church in Fort Fairfield, the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church, and the Limestone Assembly of God. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was predeceased by her husband William on April 17, 1999; three brothers, Donald, Ralph and George Cogswell; three sisters-in-law, Aimee Cogswell, Althea Cogswell and Phyllis (Ayoob) Cogswell; one brother-in-law, Chuck Atkins. She is survived by two sons, William A. “Willie” Thompson Jr. of Hartland, New Brunswick, Lonnie David Thompson and his wife Tracey of California, MD; one sister, Carolyn Atkins of Plattsburg, NY; two special daughters-in-law, Shirley Thompson of Pembroke, NB and Diane Travato Winstead of Virginia Beach, VA; seven grandchildren, Jessica Travato, Chad and Jason Carley, Nico, Hillary, Sarah, and David Thompson; one very special brother Paul Everett and his wife Diane of Fort Fairfield; several nieces and nephews. Vesta also leaves behind a very special white curly friend “Casey”. Friends called Tuesday September 19, 2017 from 7:00 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday September 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community Wesleyan Church, 9 Wesleyan Street, Fort Fairfield with the Rev. Dale Nason, Rev. Mel Norton, and Rev. Bernard Brown officiating. Interment took place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the Community Wesleyan Church reception area following the interment.
