FRANCES H. WHITED
Fort Fairfield – Frances H. Whited, 96, wife of the late Harris G. Whited, passed away Wednesday evening, August 7, 2019 at a Caribou nursing facility, following an extended illness. She was born October 14, 1922 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Tom Sr. and Ascenith (Watt) Houghton. She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1940 and went on to further her education at the University of Maine, Orono where she earned a B.S. degree in Food Nutrition. Frances was married to Harris G. Whited on February 26, 1944 and had been employed at the Fort Fairfield Community General Hospital as a dietician for a number of years. She later became employed at the Presque Isle Sears and Robuck Department Store where she worked for twenty years. Frances was a member of the Fort Fairfield United Parish Church, the Fort Fairfield Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she served as their first president, was past president of the Fort Fairfield Community General Hospital Guild, and also served on the Fort Fairfield United Parish Church Board for several years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whited was predeceased by her husband Harris on April 22, 2004; two brothers, John “Jack” Houghton, Tom Houghton Jr.; one sister, Mary Cheney. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Cynthia Whited of Dedham; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Ann McElwee of Presque Isle, Priscilla and Scott Fields of Fort Fairfield, Kathryn and William Sunday Jr. of Franklin, VA; nine grandchildren, Lee Scott Fields III and his wife Sharon of Griswold, CT, Stephanie Fields Beaulieu and her husband Dale of Fort Fairfield, Stephen Fields and his wife Tammy of Gray, Darcie McElwee of Scarborough, William Sunday III and his wife Meagan of Germantown, MD, James Sunday and his wife Louise of Cairo, Egypt, Zack Whited and his wife Kori of Newport, Jerica Whited of Dedham, Derek Whited of Old Town. Frances also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Edwena Whited of Bridgewater, and a special family friend, John McElwee of Yarmouth; as well as six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends called Monday August 12, 2019 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield where the funeral service was conducted at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Meg Hegemann officiating. Interment followed at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held after the interment at the Fort Fairfield United Parish Church.
