FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine—Twenty-six seniors graduated from Maine School Administrative District (MSAD) #20 Fort Fairfield Middle/High School on Sunday afternoon, June 9, 2024.
The 2024 class officers are: Crystal Forbes, President; Laney Devine, Vice President; Gwendolyn Bragg, Secretary; and Lydia Gorneault, Treasurer.
National Honor Society members for this year’s senior class were: Jacob Beaulieu, Gwendolyn Bragg, Joel Cormier, Micah Daigle, Laney Devine, Sydney Doody, Crystal Forbes, Lydia Gorneault, Sophie LeBlanc, Jakob Long, and Gabriel Theriault. At 11 members, nearly half the entire graduating class this year were NHS members.
Jakob Long gave the Salutatorian speech where he recognized his classmates’ unique abilities and attributes. “As we move forward into this new chapter of our lives I want to recognize all of you. Your unique talents and passions have helped make our class unforgettable...As we go our separate ways, I want to offer you a piece of advice: never lose sight of who you are and what makes you special. Chase your passions, even when it’s tough and stay true to yourself, even when it’s hard. To my fellow graduates I say, Congratulations, We made it.”
Class President, Crystal Forbes was the Class of 2024 Valedictorian. During her speech, she described how she copes with adversity. “When I find things difficult to put into words, I rely on some of my favorite things to help me. Whether it be books, movies, scripts, poetry, art or music, I look to the rest of the world to hold my hand while I make my way through the good and the bad, the fun and the difficult, the simple and confusing, and of course the very hard to explain feelings.”
She then advised her classmates, “No matter what happens in these next few crazy years, just make sure you take a moment to step back from time to time, remember that you aren’t alone and remember that while leaving things behind is a part of life, we choose what we take with us into the future. I can’t wait to see what your collection looks like.”
Nearly forty scholarship providers awarded over $220,000 to this year’s graduating class.
