CLIFTON S. “BUTCH” BROOK
Fort Fairfield – Clifton S. “Butch” Brook, 74, husband of Rebecca M. “Becky” (Chapman) Brook, passed away Friday evening, January 10, 2020 at a Caribou healthcare facility, following a brief illness. He was born October 21, 1945 in Norfolk, VA, the son of Robert B. and Merle I. (Smith) Brook. He was a graduated of the Fort Chiswell, VA High School, Class of 1964 and served his country with the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968 as a radio operator, aboard the USS Enterprise and the USS Randolph. Butch was married to Rebecca M. “Becky” Chapman on August 28, 1968 and later attended Ricker Business College, Houlton, receiving a B.S. degree in business. He worked for a number of years for A.W. Chapman & Sons as co-owner and a plumber/contractor. He later worked for Chapman Log Homes, Laurel Fork, VA, and following his return to Fort Fairfield, became employed by McCain Foods, Inc. of Easton until his retirement in 2012. Butch was a founding member of the Fort Fairfield Rifle and Pistol Club and taught Hunter Safety Courses in Fort Fairfield for several years. He was a dedicated member of the Fort Fairfield Lions Club and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was also a dedicated supporter of the Fort Fairfield St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, helping in several capacities over the years, most especially the Annual Chicken Barbeque. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed watching football, and was always willing to lend a helping hand, a true friend to many. In addition to his parents, Butch was predeceased by one brother, Vernon R. Brook. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Becky of Fort Fairfield; two sons, Travis L. Brook and his wife Cristie of Ivanhoe, VA, Jason R. Brook of Manhattan, NY; two grandchildren, Jeramiah B. Brook of Fort Fairfield, Katy E. Jones of Max Meadows, VA; special brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law, William D. “Bill” and Sandra Chapman, Dana W. Chapman, Trudy A. and David R. O’Neal, all of Fort Fairfield; several nieces and nephews; and friends too numerous to list. Friends may call Wednesday evening, January 15, 2020 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be private with Rev. Kevin Kinsey officiating. Interment with military honors will take place later in the spring at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
