SHIRLEY J. BUHRO

FORT FAIRFIELD - Shirley J. Buhro 76, passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack Friday afternoon June 17, 2016 at Cary Medical Center in Caribou. She was born August 28, 1939 in Meauwataka, Michigan, the daughter of LaVerne and Bernice (Garn) Nicholas. She graduated from Spring Arbor College in Michigan. After graduation, she worked at Cadillac Bank & Trust in various positions, including training of new employees at all the branches. She also traveled abroad including a trip to Jerusalem.  After the bank, she took a job at the Free Methodist Church headquarters in Winona Lake Indiana.  In August of 1974 she married Walter (Bud) Buhro and moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and started her most challenging job of a full-time mother and homemaker.  The family moved to Fort Fairfield, Maine in 1977.  Shirley was a  devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed more than words can say.  Thorough-out her life, Shirley continued to study the Scriptures.  She was a member of the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church in Presque Isle and enjoyed the fellowship of her many friends there. Shirley was active in the Mayflower Society, and had relatives that arrived in the U.S. on the Mayflower ship. She is survived by two children;  Sharolyn Buhro of Freeport, Tim Buhro and his wife Sharon of Fort Fairfield, two brothers; Nick Nicholas and his wife Sharon, Cliff Nicholas and his wife Carolyn, a sister Vonnie Denton and her husband Bruce, all of Michigan, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Walter (Bud) Buhro in 2013, and a grandson Jamey Kennedy. Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Tuesday June 21, 2016 at Presque Isle Wesleyan Church with Reverends Bud Fancy and Bernard Brown officiating. Friends may call 11AM Tuesday until time of the service at the church. Interment will be in Michigan at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to The Gideon’s International Society 247 Payne Road Scarborough, ME 04074 for the distribution of bibles worldwide.
