THOMAS LEE MACDOUGAL
Limestone & Fort Fairfield – Thomas Lee MacDougal, 63, husband of Gayle MacDougal, passed away Friday morning March 18, 2016 at his Limestone home, after a brief and hard fought battle with cancer. He was born March 3, 1953 in Fort Fairfield, the son of Arthur W. and Mary “Kay” (Goodine) MacDougal.
He attended Fort Fairfield schools and served with the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1971 to 1973 as an amphibious vehicle operator, earning the rank of Lance Corporal. Following his discharge from the military, Tom worked mostly in the potato farming industry for several area growers, most notably Barry & Keith Thibeau Farms in Fort Fairfield. He and his wife Gayle also worked as long haul truck drivers for a period of time. Tom was a life member of the Fort Fairfield VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, the Disabled American Veterans Smart–Ricker Post No. 10, Presque Isle, and was a former member of the Fort Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by two brothers, David and Arthur “Blackie” MacDougal; one brother-in-law, Ralph Morris; one sister-in-law, Pauline MacDougal.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Gayle MacDougal of Limestone; one son Travis M. MacDougal of Presque Isle; one daughter and son-in-law, Shilo and Philip McMann Jr. of Limestone; one stepson, Frederick Everitt II; one stepdaughter, Sonia Everitt Giggey, both of Fort Fairfield; two brothers, Fredrick MacDougal and his wife Doreen, Eugene MacDougal, all of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Linda Morris of Marysville, CA; two grandchildren, Landon MacDougal of Presque Isle, and Tammy MacDougal Kilcollins of Mars Hill; step-grandchildren, Taylor Everitt of Caribou, Shane, Meghan, Emily and Nathan Everitt, all of Fort Fairfield. He also leaves behind two sisters-in-law, Debbie and Arlene MacDougal, both of Fort Fairfield; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services with military honors will be held Tuesday March 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 37 Lombard Road, Caribou, followed by continued fellowship with refreshments at the Fort Fairfield VFW Paul Lockhart Post # 6187, Presque Isle Street.
