LOIS E. WARD
Fort Fairfield – Lois E. Ward, 92, wife of the late Winston R. Ward, passed away September 7, 2019 at a Presque Isle hospice facility, following an extended illness. She was born February 23, 1927 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Mungo P. and Anna Pearl (Nightingale) Stewart. She was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1944 and was married to Winston R. Ward on March 26, 1949. Lois attended the Fort Fairfield Wesleyan Church and also the Limestone Assembly of God. Lois was raised by her mom and dad on their potato farm on the Center Limestone Road in Fort Fairfield. She was her dad’s right-hand worker during her teenage and early adult years. Because she dearly loved farming, she also worked for farmers Arthur and Ray Kilcollins after her dad retired. She fondly spoke of those farming days up through to her dying days. Although her children always took precedence, she unselfishly gave of herself by helping the elderly, i.e., Vavel Giggey, Albert and Clara Anderson, Helen Demerchant, Velma Grant, and Aunt Carrie Nightingale. In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by her husband Winston on March 29, 2002; two sisters, Barbara S. Burtchell and Roma Thompson; one great granddaughter, Makenna Ward on December 29, 2013. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Randall and Sandra Ward of South China, Russell and Laura Ward, Reginald and Sharon Ward, all of Presque Isle; one daughter and son-in-law, Rhoda P. and Peter Clark of Ellington, CT; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Wendy Ward of North Platte, Nebraska, Andrew and Jeanne Ward of Bridgton, Elizabeth and Steve Wipperman of Presque Isle, Kirk and Amy Ward of Houlton, Dustin and Lauren Ward of New Gloucester, Keisha (Ward) and Brandon Chandler of Naugatuck, CT, Kalie Ward of Meriden, CT; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
